Crowd Interaction & Rapport

What to say, from the first song to the last.

Open the room

Look up before you start. “Evening, I’m [name]. Thanks for spending part of your night here.”

Introduce the tune

Give one reason you chose it, or tell the room what to expect. “Let’s bring it down for this one.” Then play.

Invite a response

Make participation optional. “If you know the chorus, sing it with me.” Give the cue before the chorus and leave space for it.

Use humour that sounds like you

Try a short aside about the song or yourself. If the room doesn’t bite, keep the show moving.

Between songs

Say your first line out loud over the final ringing chord of the previous song. Find a pace that doesn’t feel rushed.
